Which positions are open, and when should I apply?
Check the vacancy listings and individual doctoral project pages for open positions. Each university advertisement specifies its own application window, requirements and deadline.
How do I submit an application?
Read the doctoral project page, then follow its link to the recruiting university’s official advertisement. Submit your application through the procedure specified there. Vacancies will also be advertised on EURAXESS. The EMANAIRE website provides information and links; it does not receive applications.
Can I apply to more than one project?
Yes. You may apply to up to four EMANAIRE doctoral projects. Submit a separate application for each position. In each motivation or cover letter, briefly identify your other EMANAIRE applications, including any you intend to submit, using the project numbers or titles. Tailor each application to the project concerned.
What academic background do I need?
We welcome applicants interested in the human and organisational implications of AI. Relevant backgrounds may include management, organisation studies, psychology, sociology, communication and information systems. Each project has its own academic, methodological and language requirements, and you must meet the host university’s doctoral admission requirements.
Can I apply if I am still completing my master’s degree?
This depends on the university. Check its advertisement for when your qualifying degree must be completed and what evidence you should provide. Contact the recruiting university if you are unsure whether your expected graduation date meets its requirements.
Can applicants of any nationality apply?
Yes. MSCA Doctoral Network positions are open to applicants of any nationality. You must also satisfy the mobility rule, doctoral-status condition and the recruiting university’s admission and employment requirements. Visa or residence-permit arrangements depend on your circumstances and the host country.
What is the MSCA mobility rule?
In general, you must not have lived or carried out your main activity, such as work or study, in the recruiting country for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before recruitment. This is assessed separately for each recruiting country. The university will check your circumstances and any applicable exceptions; consult its advertisement for the full conditions.
Can I apply if I already have a doctorate?
You must not hold a doctoral degree when recruited. Researchers who have successfully defended a doctoral thesis are also ineligible, even if the degree has not yet been formally awarded.
Which documents should I prepare?
Follow the individual university advertisement. Requirements may include a CV, motivation letter, degree certificates and transcripts, references, a research proposal and evidence of MSCA eligibility. Proposal lengths and document formats differ between hosts. Use the official instructions for each application rather than one standard document package.
Are the positions funded, and how long do they last?
The doctoral positions are supported through EMANAIRE’s MSCA funding. Salary, allowances, contract duration and any additional institutional funding are specified by each recruiting university. Check each advertisement for its own employment terms.
Where will I be based, and will I travel?
You will be based at the host university listed for your project and join shared network activities. Planned secondments and academic visits provide experience in other research and professional settings. The arrangements for your position, including travel and timing, will be explained by the host university.
When would the doctorate start?
Start dates may differ between universities. Follow the intended start date and any flexibility stated in each official university advertisement.
Who can answer questions or help with application adjustments?

The doctoral experience
You will develop your project at a host university while joining an international community of doctoral researchers and supervisors. Shared schools, methods workshops and research seminars will support your work, with planned secondments connecting your research to organisations outside academia.
